Check out 9 minutes of brand-new Dark Envoy gameplay

By - | Views: 11,787

Dark Envoy is the next title from Event Horizon, creator of Tower of Time, and there's a bunch of new gameplay available in a fresh video.

Before that though, as a quick reminder. Dark Envoy is a non-linear RPG to offer exploration of a vast world with an emphasis on tactical combat layered with lore and strategy. A continuation of Event Horizon’s attempt, which began with the studio’s debut title Tower of Time, to shatter long-standing RPG tropes and to create something unique in the process.

When originally asked about Linux support for Dark Envoy, last year they said that after the effort they put in with Tower of Time and with their experience now they will continue Linux support. Catching up with them after the new gameplay video went up, they said to GOL that Linux is still planned unless something impossible comes up "due to strange linux variations". So, the usual. Anyway, check out the 9 minute footage below:

In addition to the new footage, they also mentioned a delay to the release. It's now going to be in 2021, with an aim to be around April / May time. They won't release until they are "fully satisfied with the quality, to ensure that Dark Envoy is a game worthy of your time and which you will remember playing".

You can follow Dark Envoy on Steam.

I really liked Tower of Time and did not know they added a Linux port. When I first switched back to Linux as my main desktop a while back ToT didn't have one and didn't run well (or at all really) through Proton, which was really new at the time. I just reinstalled Tower of Time and added Dark Envoy to my follow and wishlists.

Oh, they ditched turn-based for RTwP. Looks like I'm in the minority but that's very disappointing. After waiting for Pillars and Kingmaker to gain TB modes and finding them so much more fun, I hate the idea of going back to RT.

Tower of Time predates Proton by like a year, Tower of Time came to Linux in 2017, Proton was 2018.

I haven't gone through Tower of Time yet, though I consider it in the 'must play' section of my back catalog. I'll have to try and get through it before this game comes out.

Sorry about that, I got it confused with Shadows: Awakening which I had done a review for around the same time. Eep, I'm seriously losing my memory. I realized that last night when I reinstalled it. ToT is still brilliant though. I do wish Shadows had been ported. It has an interesting character unlock and switching mechanism. I had started using Proton and Ubuntu full time in September which was when I stopped writing. I apologize for the confusion and my horrible memory. Time is so wishy washy timey wimey for me.
