What have you been gaming on Linux recently? Come have a chat

By - | Views: 44,493

It's been a little while since we had a community-chat post to round-up what you've all been gaming on Linux lately, so let's have a chat shall we.

We're all a bit spoilt for choice thanks to the likes of native Linux games, Steam Play Proton, cloud game streaming, lots of great emulators and more that you can all do right on Linux. This often makes choosing a game to play rather difficult doesn't it? It does for me.

I end up quite often going back to what I see as comfort games, those that you can just repeat over and over and you know them well, like a gaming comfort blanket with the likes of XCOM 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Streets of Rogue and others but there's a new one in my own personal list: Ziggurat 2 which released into Early Access with Linux support in late October.

Milkstone Studios seem to have crafted an absolutely magical first-person dungeon crawler, that I can quite easily see myself putting hundreds of hours into. There's something so supremely satisfying about running around a room waving a wand or a staff around, unleashing powering magics on somewhat freaky enemies (like those damn running carrots). When you get into the boss battles, it really gets your blood flowing too.

Over to you in the comments: what have you been gaming on Linux lately? Let us know what you've newly discovered, what you keep going back to and more.

Played a little bit of Dying Light, had some odd issue where windowed mode was giving better fps then fullscreen, unfortunately game does not have borderless window mode.

Largely I'm waiting for the 6800XT before diving back into my game collection. Need moar frames!

I've been playing mostly Pillars of Eternity, and finally I've been able to finish the base game plus the two White March expansions. I definitely rate it as one of the best cRPG that I've played to date. It is very solid, and has a good lore. Recommended ONLY to those who don't mind to read a LOT OF TEXT. I've spent more than 100hours, playing in a completionist way.

Moreover, I've started Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, thanks to Wine. Very nice setup, but I can't play more than 30 minutes to FPS games, before I become dizzy.

And finally, I'm playing with my 8 years old son to Awesomenauts, in split screen mode against bots. Its easy to learn, and good for kids due to its cartoonish graphic style.

Pikuniku and 7 Days to Die mainly. But I also tried a large number of Disc Room Game Jam entries and Monsterz.

I have been playing some Europa Universalis 4, Charterstone Digital Edition and Thermo Sudoku. I have been defaulting to the familiar those days (well, never played Charterstone before, but it's a worker placement boardgame).

Final Fantasy XIV - Runs very well. There's some grind at the beginning, but after a few hours the story begins to unfold.
