Amnesia: Rebirth  the latest entry in the Amnesia series from Frictional Games receives a mode that lets you experience the game with a little less threat. Much like they did with SOMA, this mode is for people who want to play through and focus more on the story and puzzles than needing spare pants handing for scary bits.

"The game still has its very serious theme and sometimes unnerving ambiance, but the new mode feels a lot more like an Indiana Jones type of adventure in places where it would otherwise be more of a horror experience," explains Fredrik Olsson, Creative Lead on Amnesia: Rebirth.

What to actually expect from it: the removal of life-threatening monster encounters, plus certain sounds and visuals involved in the main character's fear levels were also cut out. Your environment is also lit up a bit more so there's less worrying overall. On top of that, Adventure Mode includes a number of bonus puzzles "that add up to the experience of a true Lovecraftian mystery adventure novel".

"We believe that anyone who loves a good story-driven adventure game will be stoked about this new mode. Not everyone is into horror and we don’t want that to block people from experiencing Tasi’s story," comments Fredrik. "We did something very similar when we released the Safe mode for SOMA. It was extremely well received and opened up the game to a much broader audience, something we hope will happen with Rebirth as well."

I still believe it is one of the best games of 2020 and Frictional did a great job on it over all, once the launch issues got fixed up nicely.

You can buy Amnesia: Rebirth from GOG and Steam

If you missed it, Frictional also open sourced Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Read more on that news here. Continuing to be a developer well worth your time and support.

If it's going to be like Layers of Fear 2 it would be nice.

Game journalist mode.

Honestly I wish the Nu-Dooms had mode slike this too. Endless arena combat with waves is tiring.
I like how this is an option but not forced. Best of both worlds. People like myself that love Lovecraft atmosphere and story can enjoy it without the stealth that I don't enjoy but those who want the stealth can have it.

Ah, a child mode! o.o

While SOMA is absolutely worth playing without too much horror, I'm not sure the same is true for Amnesia: Rebirth.

It's only endless if you die... and you know what the solution to THAT is
Though I do agree that a few of them felt like they were really dragging it out.

For Amnesia, I really don't get the need for it, though.
The light sources are ample unless you light every single torch on your way, dying is inconsequential (I died a bunch and wasn't locked out of any ending), ...

Anyway, for this kind of game, I don't have a problem with story modes existing.

Soma was really the best for me, man, what a story.
I survived alien isolation, much fun, really!
Outlast, too much anxiety, stress and i hate to make things with too much hurry.
Call of Chtulhu: do you suggest it?
And finally, i gave up on the observer, not splatter, but man, it toke me soo bad.
Being in theme, i can suggest you Omen exitio, if you like Lovecraft, a nice and relaxing way to enjoy a good thrilling story.

I played through Outlast, but gave up on Whistleblower due to the same reasons.

Horror is not a game style I like, but I'm always in for a good story. So this is good news for me. And as it's also on sale right now, I'll take a look...
