OpenRazer 3.0.0 expands with many new Razer devices supported on Linux

By - | Views: 25,382

Get your fancy Razer mouse, keyboard, laptop and whatever else ready as OpenRazer 3.0.0 is out now to further expand what Razer devices are nicely supported on Linux.

It comes with some big improvements including persistent storage of effects in daemon, previously frontends had no way of reliably getting the effect that a device had set and support for DPI Stages for mice. A few bug fixes made it in too like the addition of missing HAS_MATRIX attribute for Tartarus V2, fixed volume control buttons on Razer Cynosa V2 and more.

As expected there's quite a few devices that have been added to it including these:

  • Razer Blade Stealth Late 2020
  • Razer DeathAdder V2 Pro
  • Razer Mouse Bungee V3 Chroma
  • Razer Ornata Chroma V2
  • Razer DeathAdder V2 Mini
  • Razer Base Station V2 Chroma
  • Razer Firefly V2
  • Razer Naga Left-Handed Edition
  • Razer Book 13 2020
  • Razer Basilisk V2
  • Razer Cynosa Chroma Pro
  • Razer Basilisk Ultimate
  • Razer Mouse Dock
  • Razer Charging Pad Chroma
  • Razer Huntsman Mini

OpenRazer itself though is just a driver and daemon. If you want to interact with it easily, you're likely to need a UI. Thankfully, there's a few of those around too including Polychromatic and RazerGenie.

There is even more than that (five I think), you can find them at the bottom of OpenRazer GitHub page!

Just tried this - superb. I originally missed the line about adding my user to the plugdev group. After that (and a reboot) and it works great. Quite impressed with Polychomatic too, particularly the dark tray icon support. Really nice to have a simple way to control my mouse colours - love it!

Cool. Looks like I still can't program the buttons on my Razer Deathadder Elite (using Razer Genie), but the colours and all that (pointless) stuff can still be changed on the fly. Maybe the update didn't touch this particular mouse.

Hopefully the next release include BlackWidow V3 Pro, lovely bluetooth mechanical keyboard, perfect for switching between personal desktop and work laptop

ohh nice Razer Basilisk V2 is finally in :) i had to build with its support manually so far.
The sad thing is that theres still no key rebinding stuff. theres a pull request thats been sitting there for allmost a year, but that only supports keybinds for keyboards.
I had to run virtualbox win 10 trial with usb passthrough with mouse to configure my buttons..luckily those things are stored to hardware, so i dont have to touch it anymore :)

OpenRazer doesn't seem to pick up my Deathadder v2 at all, so Polychromatic has nothing to work with. Bit of a disappointment, really.

It should work after the plugdev fix I mentioned, Nezchan. I was in the same boat - OpenRGB only saw my motherboard's fan, while Polychromatic failed to load. After plugdev and a reboot, it all sprang to life. Now I can use either/or OpenRGB/Polychromatic with my Deathadder v2.

You're on Ubuntu-Mate, while I'm on Pop_OS 20.04, so hopefully there's enough crossover that this can work for you.

That's odd. I've got a DeathAdder V2 and it works well. Waiting for BlackWidow V3, though.

Have you tried Razer Genie? I have BlackDeathadder Elite (not sure how different they are), and it shows up in Razer Genie. Can only change RGB stuff and such, not buttons from what I can tell, but the mouse does at least register.

Unfortunately my mouse is messed up on the wheel buttonpress, and it only very rarely registers, which is quite annoying. Was in touch with their support on the same day I bought it, but was told to send it in, halfway around the planet, which I didn't bother with. Would have left me without a mouse for god knows how long, plus shipping costs.
