Steam Deck Beta update and a Proton Experimental update out now

By - | Views: 30,725

More extra fixes have come trickling down from Valve with the Steam Deck Beta updated and a new release of Proton Experimental too so here's what's new.

Firstly, for Proton Experimental, there's a newly playable title of Rift. It's a free to play MMORPG. Plus there's a fix for Warframe's launcher displaying an empty window (experimental regression) and a fix for Assassin's Creed Origins hanging during gameplay after recent game update.

The changelog can be seen here at any time. Need to know how to change the Proton version used? See the below video:

Text guide (Steam Deck):

  • Pick a game and head to the little COG icon on the right.
  • Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select it from the dropdown.

On a Linux desktop:

  • Right click a game, go to Properties.
  • Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select it from the dropdown.

As for the Steam Deck Beta update it was a small one too:

  • Fixed a bug where some flatpak applications (like Edge) couldn't successfully quit
  • Fixed some issues with claiming Steam Deck digital rewards
  • Updated keyboard behavior for improved fast typing on trackpad and touchscreen. (pressing a key while holding another key will now commit the held key instead of waiting for first to release)
