Broken Sword 2 gets a big upgrade along with Steam Deck support

By - | Views: 18,800

The absolute classic that is Broken Sword 2 from Revolution Software just got a big surprise update, which should make it work a lot better in modern systems and the Steam Deck too! Originally released in 1997 and then Remastered in 2010 and now they're back to improve it yet again.

You can see their full announcement on it here but here's some highlights:

  • Improved display resolution.
  • Better widescreen support.
  • Steam Achievements.
  • Reduced file-size by about 40%.
  • Menu and UI refresh.
  • New high-resolution fonts.
  • Cloudsave support.
  • Steam Deck support.

The good news is that they also confirmed work is ongoing for Broken Sword 1 to give it the same upgraded experience. We'll let you know when the update drops for that too!

Available to buy on GOG, Humble Store and Steam.

That's as close to an epitome of "labor of love" as it can get. Kudos to the Revolution devs and publishers, and may we get similar remasters for all such classics from the 90s and early 00s.

(And may we not get remasters with dubious additions that spoil the original spirit and/or quality like the Enhanced Editions of Baldur's Gate et al. I appreciate the remastering of the engine but please, let the classics be the classics, y'know?)

I am only guessing here.

If they updated the textures then probably you should see the improvements in ScummVM as well. If not, well, there is at least that new font and new menus?

The version they sold for Linux before was an impertinence, though.
