Google are now processing Stadia Hardware refunds

By - | Views: 21,859

With the closing of Stadia fast approaching, Google has already run through plenty of refunds for Stadia game purchases and now they're moving onto Stadia Hardware refunds.

I have now received refunds for all of my Stadia game purchases, and just recently a fresh email entered my inbox from Google about Stadia Hardware. In the email it reiterated the January 18th, 2023 shutdown date and mentioned Google Store purchases of Stadia Hardware will be refunded "within two weeks" (from November 30th). So if you're waiting on the refund, you might want to keep an eye out soon.

For any issues on refunds, you'll get an email on how to proceed with an alternative account to get the money.

Stadia have a bunch of info in their FAQ.

Did you game on Stadia and want to move progress over? So far UbisoftBungieI/O InteractiveCD Projekt RedRockstar Games and Bethesda have already shared plans on that but it's down to each developer and publisher to sort it.

What a massive shame for a once promising Cloud Gaming service, Google just had no real idea of what they were doing or what the industry actually truly wanted. Thankfully, Cloud Gaming fans still have the likes of GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Luna.

Would they have gone to Stadia in the first place?
Only if they figured out the reality behind the crappy and misleading marketing.

Makes you wonder what will happen to all the unsold controllers? I guess they will end up in the same landfill as the ET cartridges...

Yes, on Stadia you could just buy a game and play it without limits, no need for any subscription.

I am silently hoping Ubi will pick it up as a white label, and even more that Valve will build something similar (Neon Prime?).

Or maybe, just maybe, Google will wise up and unlock the Bluetooth capability of the controller and sell them off? Oh wait, that would make sense. #whatwasIthinking

You can connect your Steam library and play games that support Steam Cloud Play on Geforce Now.

I enjoy cloud gaming but I wonder where the line is drawn with this stuff. I often play a few rounds of surviv.io sometimes solo but often with some friends for a squad. It use to be called browser based gaming but shouldn't it be also called cloud gaming?

I'm also enjoying Jam.gg during the few times a month certain friends and family pop on and want to play something on it.

Both are free with no sub.
