Want to play Might and Magic 6, 7 and 8 on modern systems with an updated game engine? Well, OpenEnroth looks mighty promising.
It's nowhere near finished yet with only Might and Magic 7 playable but it's regularly seeing contributions to keep working away on it. Support for 6 & 8 will be added in the future, obviously they need to start somewhere. The idea, like a lot of these open source projects including OpenMW for Morrowind or OpenRA for Red Alert (and others), is to build a platform to have it run on modern systems with enhancements while keeping the original game feel.
I've added it to my big list of releases to follow, so whenever there's a juicy update on it I'll let you know.
Nice to see a good few more projects like this appear over the last few years.
You'll need the data files which you can get easily on GOG.com.
*Adds more games to ever growing list of games to play*
I will test that for sure.
Might & Magic and Wizardry are my two favourite classic CRPG series, and I'm so glad we're able to play these games on modern systems.
