RPCS3 is a free and open source PlayStation 3 emulator, and they hit a huge milestone for compatibility recently.

While they don't have any recent blog posts, they did take to Twitter to announce that the "Loadable" category has hit zero games. This means that all games can at least boot up now, although there's still a fair few that will display an image but don't make it past the menus although that list is short too at only 2.56% of the overall library they're tracking. They're also tracking 28.96% noted as only just able to get in-game but have issues preventing them being fully playable (performance, bugs etc).

A long road and emulator development is certainly challenging, great to see it continue on though.

Their latest video from a few months ago showed off MotorStorm Pacific Rift now being playable:

Despite what the likes of Sony, Microsoft, and most notoriously Nintendo think of emulation outside of their own stores (which are often sorely lacking) — it's vital for preservation.

Ha, I finally bought that for the PS5. Has it been opened yet? I think so? Have I played it yet? Nope!

Too many Steam games! Not to mention game time... maybe one day...

Ha, you mean like how easily I gave up on Elden Ring because of it's mechanics pissing me off?

Funny, I've just picked up Red Dead Redemption GOTY to play it with RPCS3. Now I just need a compatible Blu-ray drive to dump the game files to my disk (or get them by another way). So this is really good news. :-)

It's quite CPU heavy, 6+ cores are recommended.

Full requirements here:

The only two games im interested in (Formula One: Championship Edition and NCAA Football 14) are listed as "Ingame"

That sucks..... But I will keep my eye on RPCS3..... Its good to see how much is has improved over the the past few years......

I can run a JRPG (which, on the one hand, isn't too taxing, but OTOH Japanese devs aren't known to be most efficient) like Ar nosurge just fine on a 3400G. Not at the best quality but it does run well. It's never going to be as light as PCSX2 games, but efficiency-wise, I think it's gotten there.
