Proton Experimental fixes up Call of Duty: Black Ops III videos

By - | Views: 26,223

Another fresh small update to Proton Experimental has landed on March 22nd, here's what's new and changed for Steam Deck and Linux desktop.

From the release notes:

  • Fix graphical issues in Call of Duty: Black Ops III while playing videos
  • Fix PooShooter: Toilet Invaders starting to a black screen.

This should mean that Call of Duty: Black Ops III is truly click and play now for Steam Deck and Linux desktop — awesome!

I'll admit I had to look up that second one, it is a real game and someone working for Valve had to fix an issue for it, kind of hilarious. While funny, it's also a good example of how often Valve doesn't just focus on the biggest names in gaming to get them working in Proton. Bugs in one game, even a small game, can affect others.

Changelog can be found here.

For an explanation of all the different Proton versions see my original guide on Proton. Proton Experimental gets automatically installed if Valve set it on a game, or you can just search for Proton Experimental in your Steam Library (not the Steam Store) to install it.

Now I wish the only few matches that could be found didn't have cheaters plaguing them. It's, unfortunately, a better experience with bots IMHO.
