itch.io is hosting another big Queer Games Bundle for Pride Month

By - | Views: 23,868

It's LGBT Pride Month which means there's another big bundle of games available in the Queer Games Bundle now on itch.io. Featuring 466 different items from 293 creators it's filled full with games, physical games, assets, soundtracks and more.

From the bundle page:

If we had the budget of an AAA game, we could give every solo developer in this bundle a livable wage multiple times over for a year and every single team a massive funding boost. Imagine what the developers and artists in this bundle could create a year from now if they weren’t worried about starving or how to pay their rent this month.

Purchasing the Queer Games Bundle is a direct action that you can take right now to support queer people in a life-changing way, and in exchange, you get over 450 amazing, heartfelt, fun, and radical games and artworks.

Help nurture our diverse queer arts community, fund the creation of the next great game you love, and find your new favorite game by purchasing the bundle today.

There's two different versions you can support the creators with the main bundle and a PWYW bundle ($10 minimum) for people who can afford less but still wish to grab it.

With this being the third year they've done the bundle, last year they managed to raise over $200K for all the creators involved across the two bundles.

It's important and a real step forward to represent human diversity in video games.

I just googled for pride month and Google was... colorful. 🌈

Itch.io is odd. Like I think I bought some giant RPG bundle, but only ever get 'this thing has been updated' for one of them.

Also, I should look to see if there is an Amiga client, as some Amiga games get released there. There was a mixed bag of good and crap stuff in the last bundle, if I recall. Anything great in this one?

Not sure what to think. I’m all in favor for everyone to love who they want to. I could "donate" 10€ to support this idea for sure. But, as a gamer point of view, these bundles on itchio or elsewhere are so often filled with trash-ish games... Just looking quickly at the list here, i didn’t see anything i’d actually enjoy playing.

I'm avoiding large bundles, too.

100% agree!!

But, reading the blurb Itch put out (quoted above), feels disingenuous on their part. If they reach their 13,000 USD goal, with 293 creaters.... That's 44USD a paid to each creator (assuming itch takes no cut, before taxes etc).

That's not exactly "life changing."

I'm still all for supporting the community and we definitely need more diverse voices in games, I just wish the marketing around this was a little less... Corporate-y (or perhaps more honest)

After the first giant bundle, some people complained about getting their library cluttered, so itch.io changed it so that you need to manually "activate" the games you bought in a bundle in order for them to appear in the library. For compulsive collectors, like me, it's of course suboptimal; fortunately there's a tampermonkey script that will do it for you: https://gist.github.com/lats/c920866caf9c0cb04e82abba411e1bb9

tick the current bundle in the filters on the left and then you can sort e.g. by popularity or steam rating.

A lot of games but also looks like mostly junk, I have no doubt there will be some good titles in there though. Just hard to find amongst the rest.

When I see games called Furry Sex and Orc Fuck, can't say these are on my wishlist.

I'm willing to cut itch way more slack on "happy pride! buy buy buy!" than I am for Pepsi, Target, airlines, etc, but I do feel some kind of way about it becoming an annual institution.
