The latest Volcanoids update looks electrifying

By - | Views: 12,690

Volcanoids is pretty great and a game I keep going back to with each major update, and it looks like they're going to sucker me right in again. A co-op survival game that replaces a static base with a big moving drill-ship - what's not to love?

The latest "Tesla Update" looks rather electrifying giving you access to a Tesla Cannon. This new weapon will fire an electric beam that hits multiple targets at once dealing constant damage. It can even be used to shoot down incoming projectiles and it has a secondary-fire that puts up a shield for you. On top of that there's also a Tesla Rifle, which shoots lots of quick zaps to stun various enemies.

Even more was added like Tesla Turrets for your drill-ship, Tesla Turret Drones you can build to fortify an area, Mini Tesla Turrets for inside your drill-ship and they also added EMP Grenades and Mortars. However, you're not the only one with all this electrical tech — the enemy robots cogs have it too. Just take a look at the trailer:

How does this game fare when compared to Forever Skies? They both have the premise of having a mobile base instead of a static one, which I find interesting.

I'd say not too much. I only played the demo of Forever Skies, so don't have a complete picture. The one thing you might not realise is that Volcanoids is fairly combat heavy. There is base building and crafting (manufacturing would be a better term here), but it's all in service of combat and gaining access to other places. Haven't played the last couple of Volcanoids updates though. Got quite far at one point and decided to leave it until it was closer to final release.

Ohh nice, been a while since I played through Volcanoids, think I did after the tank update which was quite fun. I really hope they add some form of endless game mode at some point or something to extend the game. Currently find that replayability mainly comes from the really good new content they keep adding.

I agree with Korhaka. When you play Volcanoids with friends, it's fun for a good while in the beginning. That will wane, and then it's fun again for a while when more features are added. You could say it's appropriate for an Early Access state.
