ProtonUp-Qt v2.8.1 improves Heroic Games Launcher support

By - | Views: 17,920

ProtonUp-Qt is the app that allows you to install the likes of GE-Proton, Wine-GE, Luxtorpeda and more for Steam, Lutris, Heroic Games Launcher and Boxtron.

A new release is out with v2.8.1 that brings with it support for installing Wine-GE, GE-Proton and D8VK for the Heroic Games Launcher. There's also now an Italian translation and translation support can now be done through the popular Weblate.

Other changes behind the scenes:

  • Increase Gamepad deadzone to five percent.
  • Improve logic for detecting the Steam root folder.
  • Account for D8VK's rename of the master branch.
  • Load more Proton-Tkg releases if none found on the first batch.
  • Fix wrongly displayed Lutris Wine Fshack versions.
  • Overhaul of the UI and internal functions.

See all on the GitHub page.

I've shown it off numerous times now like with my Steam Deck guide. It's so ridiculously simple to use! Just download it either via the AppImage or Flatpak, load it up and select to install what you want and it does the rest of the work for you. Really nice to have such simple helper apps like this.

I've been trying to run Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 from EGS on Heroic Launcher for a year, using a lot of different versions of Proton GE. The farthest it goes is playing the video intro with RATM music, after that it freezes. Does anyone knows a specific version that works or maybe a workaround?

There are reports of people running it with: Proton-6.3, Proton-GE-7, and latest Proton Experimental.

The specific version that pops up in people's reports is Proton-6.3.

It worked! I can't remember the last time I tried, maybe this winter, but now works with Proton Experimental. I saw those reports of Proton 6.3 some time back but I couldn't replicate it until now, thanks!
