The Khronos Group who oversee various standards like OpenGL, Vulkan and OpenXR announced recently they've put up a "Request for Proposals" to fund work on Monado.

To back up a bit: OpenXR is a royalty-free, open standard that provides high-performance access to Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)—collectively known as XR—platforms and devices. While Monado is an open source XR runtime supporting Linux, Windows and Android with an aim to be a fully conforming implementation of the OpenXR API.

Like any standard, the idea for OpenXR is for developers to target that to have better cross-platform support and Monado should make XR better on Linux (eventually).

The Khronos Group are looking for developers to work on Monado with a budget of $72K USD, and they want the work to be done within 6 months of starting. Any company is "welcome to respond" to their call. They also expect the code to be "properly commented source code integrated into the existing Monado GitLab repository which uses C and C++".

See their official news post and the documentation on exactly what they want here. They want all responses sent over to them by August 3rd.

Could be quite exciting especially if it helps OpenXR support overall on Linux.

Wasn't Collabora working on it already/before? Maybe Khronos thinks they are taking too long / need more help?
