Diablo be damned, Last Epoch plans to release 1.0 in February, 2024

By - | Views: 32,022

Diablo who? Eleventh Hour Games have announced that their action RPG Last Epoch will release the big 1.0 on February 21st, 2024! With multiple big previews of new stuff coming before release.

Even though it will be released properly and leave Early Access, as expected, it's not going to be finished. They fully plan to continue expanding the game post-release with "substantial new content" every few months adding in the likes of end-game content, skills, unique items, gameplay systems, quality-of-life features and so on.

Before they hit the 1.0 mark though they've announced multiple updates and previews to come including:

  • January 11th - Item Factions
  • January 25th - Warlock Preview
  • February 8th - Falconer Preview

Their last update video can be seen below:

The game has Native Linux support, although the status of that has always been quite on the rough side, it seems it's generally better to play it with Proton. Have you been playing it recently? Let us know your experience with it in the comments.

You can find it on Steam.

Refunded this one last year, it didn't work properly with native or with Proton. Last I heard both are quite rough. They also enforced some very cumbersome setup to make an account with their online service. I think I spent about an hour in-game with most of that being an attempt to set up an account.

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I'll stick with Torchlight II for my ARPG fix. Grim Dawn, while not native, also sates the urge for something a bit meatier in terms of story.

Native performs pretty great now, but there are a couple bugs still. Most notably is the missing character models on the character select and creation screens. It's annoying but not difficult to deal with, especially since on the character select you can click your character names on the right.

One time the features on the minimap disappeared but a quick Verify Files fixed it.

I can even play it on my new S76 Pangolin, the AMD integrated graphics handle LE like a champ!

I love Torchlight 2! It has the feel of Diablo 2, and the music composer helped with that a lot. Love the Steam Workshop support too.

Does this game REQUIRE linking your Steam account?

Played a bunch of this earlier this year and absolutely loved it. The end game systems are where it's at, so I tried to rush there. So much fun with the monolith!!

Is this game online or not? Does it have microtransactions? First thing i see on steam they are selling some kind of in-game currency.

Currently online, they said it will be offline eventually for solo players.

QuoteAs we’re talking about changes to the client here, we also want to quickly mention our plans for the future of the Last Epoch’s offline mode. With Beta Patch 0.9, Offline mode will continue to work as it currently does, where it has some online services such as friends list support, and chat. However, as we move towards 1.0, we’re planning to make offline truly offline. This will mean offline mode will not require an internet connection at any point (beyond initially downloading the game). This also means offline mode will not support connected functionality but will offer a genuinely offline experience to players who want it. You will only be asked to connect to our servers when you select to play multiplayer and play on our servers.

Beta has an offline mode, but you need to first register an online account to get there. :). In 1.0 they are promising a full/true offline mode.

Video was interesting garnered my interest until i went to the steam page and saw its always online and in addition to the early access asking price they selling in game currency and live service stuff. If they stick to their word and it isn't marketing speak, if an actual offline single player mode at launch us available perhaps i may give this a try at a later date, but for now like someone said will stick with torchlight, titan's quest. victor vran, grim dawn etc. theres even an article about ARPGs on here we arent exactly hurting for ARPGs right now just maybe one that's a current release.

Definitely the one on the characters screen is annoying. This game looks really good, but I don't like the fact that the bug was reported months ago yet they still haven't released a fix for it.

I've also experienced the minimap bug, and also dealt with invisible life and mana. I'm not sure about this last one and the minimap, but I guess letting steam get the shaders and not skipping them fixed this.
