After 10 days of waiting, 343 Industries / Xbox Game Studios finally again fixed up the online multiplayer for Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Linux desktop and Steam Deck after breaking it.

Their developers hooked up support for it originally back in April, and then broke it with the September 19th update that I reported on previously. Their official support account on X has now confirmed as of September 29th that it is fixed again and it seems they also finally after ~6 months fixed the launch options being backwards.

Steam Deck screenshot taken today playing online:

No MangoHud, as Valve disabled showing the HUD in SteamOS 3.5 screenshots…

And a screenshot on desktop Linux (Kubuntu 23.04):

Both were using Proton 8.0-3 so it's working fine now.

I tried it again using Proton Experimental with the EasyAntiCheat Runtime installed.

It still hangs with:

Whenever I try to launch a playlist. It's been this way forever. For good measure, I tried with Proton 8.0-3. Same result. I also waited for the Processing Vulkan Shaders prompt to finish instead of skipping (this took 10 minutes).

Yup, I played co-op yesterday with my Windows buddy (still need the ucrtbase "fix" to prevent desynchronization, maybe I'll look into fixing that one day). I'm glad they fixed it.

They cannot check if update did not break something? Hello! Hallo uses probably proton on Steam and many people told me in past, Windows API is most stable API and Wine/Proton tries to implement it. There was not distribution amount problems, so they just do not check quality.

You know, to this day every time I see "Master Chief" I find myself thinking "Master Chef".
