METAL GEAR SOLID - Master Collection Version now shouldn't lose your saves

By - | Views: 28,153

One of the big nuisances of the METAL GEAR SOLID - Master Collection Version release on Steam, was that you may have found your saved games vanished. The latest version should fix that happening going forward.

Noted in my initial article and video about the release on Steam, if you saved and then just quit the game without first using the L1+R1 (gamepad shoulder buttons) overlay menu, it seemed like the save you made would just…vanish. A pretty incredible bug to release with and numerous gamers noted their lost progress due to this. Thankfully, it should be solved now.

The latest patch version 1.3.0 notes these improvements:

  • Added save functionality improvements.
  • Updated the Online Manual.
  • Fixed some other minor issues.

Plus they're currently investigating this:

  • An issue which sometimes causes certain cutscenes to stop playing.

Valve has given it a Steam Deck Playable rating, mainly due to some small text. It's also rated Gold on ProtonDB for desktop gamers.

METAL GEAR SOLID 3: Snake Eater - Master Collection Version was also updated to version 1.3.0 with these changes:

  • Fixed an issue where some buttons were assigned multiple functions (Details on the updated controls are available in the Online Manual).
  • Fixed an issue where the audio was out of sync with certain videos.
  • Updated the Online Manual.
  • Removed the "Download" section from the game launcher (Check here for our guide on how to install/uninstall the DLCs).
  • Fixed some other minor issues.

And they're investigating this:

  • An issue where some face paints are displayed in a lower resolution.

No Steam Deck rating for this one yet and it's rated Bronze on ProtonDB for desktop gamers.

Update -  And now on 15/11/23 they also updated METAL GEAR SOLID 2: Sons of Liberty - Master Collection Version to version 1.3.0 with these changes:

  • Fixed an issue where a "Damaged File" error was sometimes displayed when trying to load save data.
  • Fixed an issue affecting users who purchased the game in Japan where the English opening video would play even in the Japanese version of the game.
  • Updated the Online Manual.
  • Removed the "Download" section from the game launcher (Check here for our guide on how to install/uninstall the DLCs).
  • Fixed some other minor issues.

With these issues they're still investigating:

  • An issue that results in the laser pointer effect not displaying in some cutscenes
  • An issue that causes the sea lice to be displayed incorrectly in certain scenes

No Steam Deck rating for this one yet and it's rated Bronze on ProtonDB for desktop gamers.

It must be utterly surreal to write a headline like this in 2023!

It will be even more surreal when he has to write that they found the saves hiding in a cardboard box.......

I guess before too long, I'll start seeing things similarly - I just haven't seen enough of it yet.

Or that they made the saves into a box.

Talking about horses microtransactions, fun fact, according to an exblizz employee (Jason Hall, @PirateSoftware in Twitch) the Celestial Steed in WoW (25$ at launch) made more money than Starcraft II: WoL.

How is this verified if you have to manually fix the audio file that’s missing to get the game to run on the deck?

Only Metal Gear Solid 1 is rated as Playable, the other two as noted are not and MGS1 needs no fixes to get working.
