Songs of Conquest now Steam Deck Verified with full gamepad support

By - | Views: 42,982

Need a new turn-based strategy game with an infusion of RPG mechanics that looks beautiful? Play on Steam Deck or with a gamepad mostly? Check out the latest update to Songs of Conquest!

Thanks to the most recent update which developer Lavapotion worked with Bitwave Games on, the game has been expanded and overhauled to work fully on Steam Deck with full gamepad support. As they said it has "a complete overhaul of controls and menus, ensuring native integration with Steam Deck and gamepad controls" and that "A major part of this includes adding a large-font UI, guaranteeing no awesome dialogue or tooltip goes unnoticed".

On top of that there's new tooltips just for the Steam Deck, to go along with the new control scheme making it a natural fit for Steam Deck and gamepad players.

With all those changes done and live, the game has been checked over by Valve and given the Steam Deck Verified badge of approval. For Destop Linux players, it runs great with Proton 8!

Currently it has a Very Positive user rating on Steam.

Does anyone have any information if GOG version also got any official Steam Deck support via patch?

I have been thoroughly testing this game on the OLED SD every day since I got it, and I can confirm it is very ready.

We are living in this parallel reality where this tiny game with a fraction of the content of Total Warhammer 3, is actually more fun and has better onboarding than Total Warhammer 3.

I don't have the GOG but this is an official release, so it should apply to the GOG version. We are no longer in the "Steam Deck Beta".

Steam Deck support is likely just controller support and maybe interface scaling. Some games have presets specifically designed for that APU, but that's probably unnecessary here, hah.

Back when I played it what bothered me wasn't the controls, though - it was the forced writing. So bland and uninteresting (with a smidge of ESL) it was downright unreadable. Really made me miss the old Might & Magic flavour (just like the new MM and HoMM games).
