By - | Views: 38,036

January is almost, finally, over so here's some freshly picked and washed Steam Deck Verified games that might help you push through February. No "Playable" malarky here, all these are fully Steam Deck Verified by Valve so they should be completely click and play without any issues.

I'll also list any ProtonDB rating or note if any have a Native Linux version for those interested.

Seven: Enhanced Edition (ProtonDB Gold)

"Seven: Enhanced Edition is an open-world, isometric stealth and action role-playing game, in which you play as Teriel, a master thief sent on a mission that will shake the foundations of the Vetrall Empire. Free roam across the vibrant prison island of Peh and explore the sea depths on board of a submarine in the Drowned Past expansion."

METAL GEAR SOLID 2 and METAL GEAR SOLID 3 (ProtonDB Silver)

MGS2: "In the Tanker chapters, Solid Snake sneaks into a secret tanker in pursuit of a new top-secret nuclear weapon, called Metal Gear. In the Plant chapters, Raiden of the new FOXHOUND unit infiltrates an offshore plant occupied by terrorists."

MGS3: "Snake Eater is the origin story of Naked Snake and his mentor The Boss and the fifth title in the METAL GEAR series. The game is set in a deep jungle environment."

Party Animals (ProtonDB Gold)

"Fight your friends as puppies, kittens and other fuzzy creatures in PARTY ANIMALS! Paw it out with your friends remotely, or huddle together for chaotic fun on the same screen. Interact with the world under our realistic physics engine. Did I mention PUPPIES?"

Snake Pass (ProtonDB Gold)

"Slither, coil and climb your way to the top of Haven Tor in this one of a kind physics based, puzzle platform adventure from award winning independent studio Sumo Digital!"

STAR WARS: Dark Forces Remaster (releases February 28th)

Teslagrad 2 (Native Linux)

"Lumina, a young Teslamancer, finds herself stranded after her airship crash lands in Wyrmheim, a remote and treacherous land to the North. Embark on a dangerous adventure, exploring a gigantic, abandoned tower looming over a fjordside valley, on a quest to get Lumina home and back to her family."

Kill The Crows (ProtonDB Platinum)

"A fast-paced top-down arena shooter set in the twisted western world. A gunslinger burning with vengeance steps into the ruins of a forsaken town, ready to face death. Prepare for one-shot, one-kill gunfights using classic revolvers and fanning techniques."

I must admit, I've had more issues with Verified titles than Playable ones!

Most notably, I picked up Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart recently, and my first experience of it was finding that the default settings didn't seem suitable for the Steam Deck so I toned them down a little bit, and the controller-glyphs were missing and replaced by "?" symbols, followed by the game crashing partway through the intro-sequence, and then, upon reloading and trying to watch the intro again, trying to hand control to me too early, resulting in all of the level geometry appearing as dark untextured and unlit polygons for a moment, before Ratchet fell through the floor into the abyss for all eternity with no response from the controls, leading to a force-quit.

To be on the safe side, I then verified all files, removed the Proton files, reloaded the game again, removed the save-file, redid the graphics-settings to be saner, and then sat through the whole intro yet again, before it finally worked properly.

It didn't strike me as something that I would call Verified. Meanwhile, I've got games that work perfectly apart from showing keyboard glyphs instead of Steam Deck ones and not setting the correct resolution out of the box but still performing identically, and they only get Playable status. Malarkey indeed!

Not a lot, this week, as I haven't had much free time! Just a little bit of Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine (Native Linux), BomberZone (Native Linux), Bombing Bastards (Native Linux), Bombslinger (Proton), and Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge (SNES).

I also did a playthrough of Super Bomberman 3 (SNES) on my newly-revived GPi Case, though that's not a long game by any means! I haven't yet had a chance to get in some time with Super Bomberman R 2 (Proton) this week, but I'm hoping to do that later.

This Seven game is looking mighty interesting!

I'm fully in Alan Wake II rabbit-hole, not to emerge before it's done. It's even better than I thought it would be.

Spoiler, click me
Not playing on Linux, unfortunately.

Well, R&C clearly didn't work for you because it has no "bomb" in the title.

That Dark Forces Remaster is going to my Library for sure!
Wait, "Naked Snake"? I had no idea Metal Gear Solid 3 was a porn title!

Finally getting to Weird West from my monstrous backlog. I'm loving the art style, the story (thus far) is interesting, and the powers seem pretty cool. I just dislike the combat so much. I REALLY wish it were turn based tactical instead, but as is, I find once stealth is broken, it devolves into "run around like a crazy person just spamming shots everywhere" which involves very little strategy or thinking, etc... Oh well, I'm still going with my first character, and having fun, so I'll keep on keepin on!
STAR WARS: Dark Forces Remaster ?
first time I heard about this remasters. Between Tomb Raider 1/2/3 and now Dark Forces Remaster, I will never see the sun in February :D

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one.

Thankfully, it did turn out to be pretty good once I got it to behave itself, and it still looks really nice even with the graphics cranked down a fair bit. I noticed some community guides regarding its performance on the Steam Deck, too, so I'm guessing I wasn't the only one to run into issues.

Seven does look interesting - and even better, I already have it. :)

Dark Forces Remaster is verified a full month before release? I guess that means it's done, and the next month is just for marketing (and maybe final bug fixes)?

Only game I've played recently is Marvel's Midnight Suns. Probably won't be much else for a while, unless I get distracted!
