Title: Detailed breakdown of performance differences between Linux and Windows for playing Factorio
bretbernhoft a day ago
Earlier tonight I came across an interesting YouTube video titled "Linux vs Windows for Factorio". It goes through the significant performance differences between Windows 11 and Linux (Fedora?) while playing Factorio.

Here is [a link to the YouTube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pno-7ZcA0E).

To give you some idea of the effort put into this video, here is a screenshot from the upload:

Ultimately Linux was much more performant than Windows 11, sometimes by a factor of 10x. Impressive.

The other differences shown there are potentially more interesting than the windows/linux one.

One other big benefit of the Linux version is its "fork save", which basically removes most of the delay from it. You don't even realise how effective it is until you go back to 1.1 (for mods) and suddenly notice the save stutters.
