God of War now DRM-freed with a GOG release and discount

By - | Views: 30,312

You can't keep Kratos shackled, as the excellent God of War is now available DRM-free on GOG and there's a nice discount to go with it too. Easily one of my favourites from the last few years! If you love action adventures it's really one not to be missed.

The GOG release comes with a 50% discount until March 29th. Nice to see more big games, especially from the likes of Sony appear on more PC stores. So it joins like the likes of Days GoneUNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition.

I blame it on the Q2 2023 revenue drop. New paths being explored.

Nice and surprising, but positive trend for Sony.

This is actually the fourth one, which is pretty cool. Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted Legacy Collection, and Days Gone are all also available on GOG.

I'm curious: what is the best option for playing gog games on linux these days? I have quite a large library and would love to continue supporting gog for their DRM free stance, but once I switched from Windows to Fedora last year the fact that they don't offer a linux version of their launcher left a bad taste in my mouth and I just decided to expand my steam library instead. I'm assuming lutris or heroic games launcher are still the best? Can they really compete with the steam stability or is manual tweaking for each game still a common occurrence? Thanks for the info!

For GOG games I'm using my own scripts. And Wine+vkd3d-proton+esync.

I almost bought HZD a little while back till I saw the reviews saying it requires you to accept Sony's use of spyware even while not playing the game. I'm surprised and disappointed GOG allow this.

Can anyone comment if this is a non-issue for Linux users?

I've not looked up the other Sony titles, but I don't see any similar reviews about GoW (for now) at least.
