Embracer Group continue to sell off more with the latest being Gearbox, which has been picked up by Take-Two Interactive in a $460 million deal.

As noted in the Embracer press release that Gearbox Software (Frisco, Texas), Gearbox Montréal, Gearbox Studio Quebec along with the Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands franchises, as well as Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms and Duke Nukem will be going to Take-Two Interactive.

Embracer will however keep hold of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco (to be renamed prior to closing, formerly named Perfect World Entertainment), including the publishing rights to the Remnant franchise, the upcoming Hyper Light Breaker and other notable unannounced game releases. They also keep Cryptic Studios, including MMO titles Neverwinter Online and Star Trek Online, Lost Boys Interactive and Captured Dimensions.

Interestingly the deal is being done using "100% in newly issued Take-Two shares", which Embracer said they plan to "sell these shares to receive cash proceeds soon after closing".

In a separate press release for Take-Two, it confirms "Gearbox currently has six key interactive entertainment projects in various stages of development, including five sequels, two of which are from the Borderlands and Homeworld franchises, and at least one exciting new intellectual property" - so Borderlands 4 is coming then it seems.

I'd be excited to hear about a new borderlands game if it wasn't for BL3. Now the first thing I want to hear is that they got a complete new team of actual writers.

TT's Wonderlands did seem surprisingly cheap at the latest Steam sale. I wonder if Embracer wanted to get as many sales as possible before handing the IP over. But maybe it's just older than I realize and/or hasn't sold enough to justify keeping a high price.

Not when they fall right into Take Two's grasp.

Going by GTA time, you'll have to wait for at least a decade before it ever becomes a thing.
I doubt it, but this might make it possible that "Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition" gets relisted. I don't really know details about the delisting, possible music licensing issues etc, but I think I remember reading that Gearbox considered their "20th Anniversary World Tour" version worthy of replacing the "Megaton Edition" or something dumb like that (shut up, Gearbox).

Maybe Valve could work something out with Take Two and then give "Half-Life: Opposing Force & Blue Shift" the same treatment they gave Half-Life 1 for its 25th anniversary? I don't even know if it wasn't possible before.

Or maybe all this is now even less likely because Take Two is terrible?
We'll see (or not).
