Sonic Rumble from SEGA seems to be their answer to a Fall Guys-like multiplayer party game, it looks like it could be good fun but the global release has now been indefinitely delayed.

While there's no new date being given, they sound quite positive on it. Seems like they just want more time to expand the content, after getting good feedback from their previews.

In an announcement of Steam they said:

Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve surpassed 1.4 million pre-registrations, a milestone that speaks volumes about your passion for Sonic Rumble. With this level of excitement, we feel an even greater responsibility to deliver an experience worthy of your time.

We’re also very proud of the amazing positive response Sonic Rumble has already received, with App Store ratings averaging 4.8.

As we prepare for Update 1.2, we’ll be introducing several exciting new features:

  • Rumble Ranking – Compete within your league and earn rewards.
  • Crews – Team up with fellow Rumblers and take on the score missions together.
  • Skills – Equip characters with unique abilities, adding a new layer of gameplay depth.

We’ll be sharing more details about these new features in the coming days, so even if you can’t participate yet, you’ll be able to stay in the loop and share your thoughts with us.

These upcoming changes will fundamentally reshape the game, and one thing has become clear: We want to create a game that evolves and stays fun for months and years to come. To build the kind of high-quality, long-lasting Sonic game our players deserve, we need more time.

As a result, we’ve decided to postpone the Global Launch. We know this news may be disappointing, and it wasn’t a decision we made lightly. We at SEGA share that disappointment, especially because we’re making this call so close to the launch timing we had originally hoped for. However, we believe taking this extra time is the right choice for the future of Sonic Rumble.

We don’t have a new release date to share yet, but as soon as we get closer, we’ll update you through our social media and community channels.

When we say your support means the world to us, we truly mean it. A strong community sticks together, and we’d love for you to join us for a special Q&A session on Discord, scheduled for May 2 at 1:00 PM UTC / 6:00 AM PDT / 4:00 PM EEST. We’ll answer your questions about the new features, the delay, the next steps, and more!

Your love and support mean the world to us. We are truly grateful.

The game has already been rated Steam Deck Verified by Valve even with the anti-cheat. Hopefully though, the Uncheater anti-cheat software they use won't cause problems for Desktop Linux like Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE) does for games like Delta Force, Infinity Nikki and Wuthering Waves.

Not surprised, really. They've been pushing this one back for a while now.

As a big Sonic fan I'll probably skip this since I'm not into mobile games and apparently from those who've been able to play the beta it's extremely grindy. I'm getting my Sonic fix from Godot of all things now.
