NVIDIA have today released two new stable GPU drivers for Linux systems, here's what's changed in each version.

The first is the 570.169 driver, part of their "Recommended/Certified" branch which is slower to update and add in new features. It's what goes through their full quality testing. This includes two fixes:

  • Fixed a bug that could cause a kernel use-after-free on pre-Turing GPUs.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause 32-bit x86 applications running on recent builds of glibc to crash on dlopen().

And then the 575.64 driver, part of their New Feature Branch branch giving you new features earlier. Which includes three fixes:

  • Fixed a bug that could cause blank rendering on some single-buffered GLX applications when running on Xwayland.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a kernel use-after-free on pre-Turing GPUs.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause 32-bit x86 applications running on recent builds of glibc to crash on dlopen().

Neither are tagged as a Beta driver, so you should be good to update your systems.

Doesn't look like this helps the issues I have with drivers above 550:

1. Screen tearing in VR headset.
2. Grey/white flickering in 2d games in at least Unity and Godot. No issues in 3d games though.

Did you report it? Things don't get fixed if you don't report them.

Could you provide some info on which games? I make heavy use of Godot (hobbyist game dev) and did not yet come across any of this. Primarily I am interested in Godot here any if it affects older version of Godot like v3 or also recent versions.

For Godot only one comes to mind: The Duck Detective and the Ghost of Glamping. Major graphical glitches. One thing of note is that on the 550 drivers it stutters a bit when glitches happen, which makes it seem like frames are presented that weren't meant for displaying.

On Unity it's actually quite common. The worst is Learning Factory, but it happens on every 2d game. For instance the new Kathy Rain 2.
