Regions of Ruin: Runegate has just been announced from Gameclaw Studio, a fresh explorative RPG hack-and-slash adventure full of dwarfs. It was originally going to be called Regions of Ruin 2 by the looks of it.

More about it from the dev: "Regions of Ruin: Runegate - an explorative RPG hack-and-slash adventure where you attempt to re-establish a haven for the lost dwarven civilization. All that remains of the once-glorious people is dust, scattered exiles, and monster-infested landscapes. Journey across varied lands, help those in need, gather resources and fight off goblins and monsters as you slowly rebuild a home for your fellow dwarfs".

Highlights:

The former land of the dwarves is as diverse as it is vast, filled with rich veins of resources, loyal allies and fearsome foes. Journey through lush environments, treacherous weather, glowing crystal-filled caverns and more in your pursuits for riches and information. And be prepared to carve your path through relentless enemies, hell-bent on sending the last of the dwarves into extinction.

On your travels, you will encounter dwarven allies in need of assistance. Come to their aid, enlist their help and create a safe haven for your people by rebuilding a civilization. By gathering resources and meeting skilled adventurers, you will be able to unlock new facilities and technologies, furthering your pursuits.

Shape your dwarven hero from their appearance to their preferred style of fighting, through a range of weapons, gear and skill trees for you to explore and experiment with. Approach each encounter as you deem best: Dive straight into the fray with a spear in hand or sneak up close and stab a goblin in the back. Just remember - stay vigilant while fighting, for enemies will adapt to your actions.

Their previous games Meeple Station and Regions Of Ruin have Native Linux support and it appears this will too.

The first game wasn't bad. A bit of relatively casual fun. And surprisingly addictive.

This sequel is already on my wishlist.

Back in 2018 I went on side-scroller binge that lasted for several years. I think I started with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (fantastic game!). I tried out Kingdom Two Crowns and found it enjoyable, but found it somewhat repetitive and only ended up playing a total of around 5 hours. At that point I discovered Regions of Ruin. I found the progression in the game satisfying and ended up playing over 50 hours. From the look of things, the new Regions of Ruin: Runegate makes me want to revisit the side-scrolling genre.

I am glad to see the team at Gameclaw Studio is still viable. Also glad to hear that they are continuing with their support of Native Linux. I will be interested to see how this game plays on a Steam Deck. Hopefully they will put out a demo when they get closer to release. No matter, I am planning on purchasing this game when it is released.

That looks promising. I hope they'll release on GOG.
