Audio is part of what makes a game great right? Theme Hospital game engine CorsixTH 0.69 is out now to enhance this absolute classic. A game I very much loved when it was originally released, and I really enjoy going back through it with a free and open source enhancement like this.

The main additions in this release include:

  • Custom level/campaign creators can now use an existing level file as an overlay to copy and extend their level file with the #overlay variable. See the 'Custom Level' Wiki page for more information.
  • A new machine menu has been added. Now you can view the status of all your hospital machines in one place!
  • Changing speed in game now happens immediately.
  • Patient happiness can now be a win/lose factor in custom games.
  • Transparent walls can now be toggled using Shift + X.
  • Soda price can now be configured in the level file.
  • Improvements and fixes for the ChirzmanTV custom campaign.

Plenty of smaller but still great changes came in this update too, like finally hearing patients vomiting. Improved AI for idle staff to look for work, VIPs now walk slower to match the original game and a number of bug fixes too.

Check out the full list on GitHub.

You need the original game files for it - you can buy Theme Hospital on GOG. Then just run the AppImage from the CorsixTH downloads on GitHub, and point it to where you've installed Theme Hospital.

Still a better love story than AAA(A) games.
