Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition released recently and it works great on Linux, even better now the online works properly too.

Thanks to Valve's Proton, we have access constantly to games new and old. But, sometimes, they come with issues. Much like previous RTS games from Relic Entertainment, it launched with a desync issue between Windows and Linux (Proton). However, unlike previous games, Relic actually released a patch to fix it! Just goes to show how far we've come that developers are truly now paying attention.

Noted in Hot Fix 2.0.1:

General

  • Fixed an issue where players could not see Multiplayer game lobbies hosted by a player using a different audio language (English, German, French, and Russian).
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the game from loading the correct language using the GOG Galaxy launcher for those using Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
  • Fixed a desync that led to a crash in Multiplayer games where players on Windows & Linux (SteamDeck / Proton) were playing together.
  • Fixed two crashes that could occur during singleplayer or multiplayer when numerous enemy units were starting to move while the player is also moving the camera.
  • Fixed two crashes that could occur when pre-rendered movies started for players using older operating systems.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur during loading screens or while saving the game.

Gameplay

  • Fixed a fatal scar error in Winter Assault Disorder Mission 1 when Gorgutz was killed immediately before a cut-scene triggered.
  • Fixed a scripting error that prevented Listening Posts from being buildable in Dawn of War Mission 1 when two strategic points were captured at the same time.
  • Fixed an issue that could sometimes prevent objective locations from being correctly highlighted by arrow FX in Campaign missions.
  • Updated Gridkeys controls to fix a keybind conflict on Orks, Space Marines, and Imperial Guard.

Now we can all enjoy one of the best RTS games ever, with lots of enhancements and actually working multiplayer between platforms without having to resort to special external fixes. What a time to be alive.
