The reception so far doesn't exactly seem too positive, the YouTube comments are filled with complaints about how it looks. Same with the Steam forum, although that's not surprising, the Steam forums are often a mess on a lot of games. You're probably going to be unimpressed with me at this point, but I actually haven't played the original. I know, I know - there's still so many classics I haven't found the time for. Big fan of the modern games though, shame we won't see a proper conclusion.

Worth noting that the original Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition is currently less than £1 on Steam until September 29th. And, if you pair it up with the Deus Ex: Revision mod, you're already getting a pretty good looking and much loved community remaster.

Not a very impressive remaster when you look closer at it.
Keep in mind its $35USD for this.
They have maybe updated it to 2005 era graphics, at most, it really is confusing why they didn't do a proper remaster like what we have seen recently with System Shock etc...

I suspect this is a company looking for some quick cash and really doesn't care about Deus Ex at all.

A talented mod team could probably spin something up much better in UE5. Maybe we will see that someday.

To me, this demonstrates why I don't use HD texture packs on old games. Some higher res textures, some models with increased poly count, but nothing in the world was changed to match. Now everything just looks out of place. You can't just slap high res textures on the environment and then leave it as the same large flat boring surfaces and expect people to go "oh, what a nice upgrade". Art style is what matters, graphics are secondary. It seems that memo has been lost somewhere.

Are you sure you're not talking about the re*make*? Because there's a full on remake of SS, and *also* a remaster, both by Nightdive. The remaster mainly updates the UI scheme of the original SS, because that original was flight simulator levels of complicated.

The remake of SS is, well, a complete Unreal 4 remake from scratch; because the original SS is a sprite based game that ran on the Ultima Underworld engine -- which came out before Doom, by the way.

This DX *remaster* doesn't claim to be anything other than a *remaster*; so it makes no sense to compare to the SS *remake*. The $35 price point might be a little steep, but that's another story.

I'm now beginning to suspect that people lamenting the fact that Nightdive isn't doing this don't know the difference between the SS remake & the remaster.

I'm in the "I have no love for nightdive" boat myself. I'm glad they're not doing this. I'm sad they're doing the SS2 one but oh well, I will just write it off. I backed their ss1 remake / remaster / whatever and it was a DISASTER. Took like a decade too long (how on earth did they keep the lights on during all that time?), and even when it was finally released was FULL of bugs / core engine issues. Stuff like not having the ability to remap mouse buttons (what?) and even worse: severe scaling issues with widescreen monitors. They hadn't implemented scaling properly so stuff was just getting stretched out super wide/fat instead of scaling properly. Major issue. After that disaster of a game release I just completely ignore anything they ever do now, and hope/wish they'd just shut down and let other more competent teams take their place.
