Forza Horizon 6 is official, it's coming in 2026 and it will be heading to Japan. It's also already confirmed to be launching on Steam.

From their news post on it:

We’re thrilled to be taking players to Japan in Forza Horizon 6, the next entry in the critically acclaimed and award-winning series of open world driving games.

Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC in 2026. It will be included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch. With the excitement for this franchise on other platforms, we also have Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation 5 post-launch.

In Forza Horizon 6, you will get to discover a scenic and breathtaking Japan, where you will build up your racing status to become a Legend at the Horizon Festival.

As you already know, Japan has been one of the most iconic and requested locations by the Forza Horizon community. We are so excited for you to experience it, and we can't wait to share more details on Forza Horizon 6 early next year. Stay tuned!

Surprisingly, Microsoft / Xbox Games Studios have actually been one of the better few at ensuring their games are not blocked in Proton (mostly) unlike many other developers when it comes to anti-cheat. They at least don't go out of their way to block Linux for their modern PC releases. However, it's worth noting that while Forza Horizon 5 works Forza Motorsport does not. Hopefully this one will. We'll be keeping an eye on it to let you know at release next year.

> Forza Motorsport does not

that's what has me worried... and no fix or two years...
there's hope in the fact that FH is their "more loved child" (as in - they haven't laid off the team) so they might give it proper attention to try and get that SteamDeck-verified badge.

Presumably there's no hope in hell of me getting Forza 4 to run on Linux if I didn't buy it before it's steam removal?

I can get a key for it still but it's Microsoft store only redeemable? No chance of getting that to play nice with Linux is there?

Unfortunately no, the MS Store version runs on proprietary junk called UWP that doesn't work on anything but Windows and Xbox consoles

Fuck Forza anything. Gran Turismo all the way. If only that rumored PC port of Gran Turismo 7 would finally release. Hopefully with cross-save too.

Also, this isn't gonna do shit for helping Xbox or Microsoft's game sales in Japan either. lol

Another festival racer that's probably not going to have any proper progression, everyone is your friend and everyone's a winner. (I would love to be proven wrong tough!)

Meanwhile, just play the New Tokyo Xtreme Racer instead, it got out of early access today and it slaps. (also runs great on linux with my low-mid spec setup)

They canned that, not happening. Also Horizon is a lot of fun and not meant to be serious like GT or Motorsport is, that's the point. also TBH Motorsport AND GT both lost the plot a long time ago, Horizon is frankly the better of the three. with fun new experiences and easy going have it your way enjoyment. Having been a fan of all racing games and grown up with GT my entire life, I say that. Hopefully that changes with the declining sales of the entire sub genre. So hopefully Horizon 6 works on Linux, hate dual booting anymore than I have to.

Japan sounds ibnteresting, I guess more closed in racing locations maybe atleast one initial D reference?

I'm still waiting for a Forza Horizon on the Halo Ring.

I dont really get into these much, I play a little lose track and lose interest then go back to my arcade racers.

I think I'd rather go for a low poly indie open world multiplayer racer with something interesting going on.

I dunno about more closed in. We think of Japan like it's all Tokyo, but there's a lot of rural and even a quite surprising amount of wilderness in Japan.

Forza Motorsport is made by Turn10, not Playground Games.
