From Transhuman Design who made Soldat, King Arthur's Gold and Maniac is a fresh action game with Jackal and you can now try it early with the demo release. Like their previous releases, it has Native Linux support too.

Before I even saw their noted inspiration, I immediately thought - this looks a bit like Hotline Miami. And that's just some of the inspiration that went into this one including OTXO, I Am Your Beast, John Wick, Cowboy Bebop and more. Enough about what they're taking from though, what's it all about then? The developer explains: "You're a drug-enhanced hitman with the moral compass of a broken slot machine, turning iconic Vegas hotels into impromptu abattoirs. Every table, chair, and kitchen utensil becomes a weapon in your hands because apparently, even the cutlery wants in on the action".

From the Steam page:

  • Every finisher a brushstroke. Every room a spectacle of carnage - Jackal is undoubtedly the most satisfyingly violent and unhinged murder simulator since Hotline Miami.
  • From sofas to shotguns - everything is lethal - Become a coked-up John Wick who can turn an entire Vegas hotel into a stage for improvised carnage.
  • Rhythmically Pleasant Frantic Violence - With drug-fueled superpowers rooms become physics kill boxes. From tables to kitchen utensils - everything is weaponized.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • No two massacres are alike - Each raid is different with randomly generated rooms, unlockable drug superpowers, stackable gameplay mutators, an arsenal of brutal finishers, enemy types, iconic Las Vegas locations, weapons and weaponized items fueling endless creative carnage.
  • Tarantino - Hunter Thompson - Palahniuk - Scorsese - Immerse in a psychedelic noir story where a hitman and his associate navigate a 1970s mob filled Vegas where every housecleaning job bleeds into the next and reality's just another bad trip.

I'm not sure about the "randomly generated rooms" part, but other than that, looks great.

I see OTXO as inspiration, I had really bad time with it as the controls on gamepad were really strange (I couldn't get used to how the character was turning). Hopefully this will not be that case.
