Wheel World from Messhof and Annapurna Interactive released back in July to some great reviews, and now it should be even better with the latest update.

What is it? A chilled-out, open world biking adventure. From the Steam page: "You are Kat, a young cyclist with one mission: save Wheel World from total collapse. Explore a stunning open world filled with impressive vistas, hidden secrets, and races that will test your skills. Customize your bike with an endless array of parts, from sleek speedsters to off-road beasts—there's no limit to how you can ride."

The third post-launch patch has just arrived, and something we don't see too often now is the developer worked on and released a Native Linux version. They said for the Steam Deck it "provides a significant performance improvement" and to swap over to it if you were previously using Proton to play the Windows version which is the default. Valve even rated it Steam Deck Verified with Proton, so hopefully this Native Linux version really is even better as they describe.

A bunch of other improvements also came with the update including a photo mode and a bunch of bug fixes.

Game Highlights:

  • Race and Dominate: Take on elite cycling teams and quirky rivals in high-stakes races where every second counts.
  • Upgrade Your Ride: Scour the world for rare parts to build the ultimate bike, perfectly tailored to your style.
  • Carry Out Your Destiny: Recover your stolen Legendary parts to ultimately perform The Great Shift ritual and save the world. No big deal.

Wheel World | Release Date: 23rd July 2025

The devs could do with contacting Valve for a re-test so that Deck users get the native version.
