SuperTuxKart is like a free and open source alternative to Mario Kart, with a brand new release out now!

This release brings with it three new egg hunt maps, three official new fields for the soccer mode. There's also a bunch of user interface improvements in this release too including a new display settings tab, a search option for karts and arenas, a new blog announcement system included in the interface, better font and UI scaling and lots of little fixes everywhere in the UI along with new themes.

Like a particular track? You can now mark it as a favourite, making them show up first for easier picking. There's also some audio improvements, several adjustments to the graphics settings by default to make it look better along with fixes to some graphical effects and some new effects were added too. There's even a new benchmarking mode included for testing.

You'll also find an improved Vulkan renderer, networking improvements, crash bug fixes and so on.

They're also doing a special donation pack, where you can get early access to two new tracks for $5 before they roll out to all players in a later update. Just a way to gather a bit more support for the project.

On top of all that, they announced back in August that work has started on SuperTuxKart Evolution, the next major change for the free and open source racer. In the release announcement for SuperTuxKart 1.5, they mentioned how development is now moving over to it. We can expect a new UI, new tracks, a new story mode and more.

See more in the release post. And the full changelog for all the details.
