Outlive 25 is a remaster of the classic 2000 RTS game rebuilt by the original developers, and a demo is just about to drop too.

I truly love base-building RTS games, so this is going high up on my list as I had honestly never heard of it until the news dropped into the GamingOnLinux inbox. Then again, I was only 12 when it originally released (and probably busy playing Total Annihilation). This is why I love remasters, bringing a new audience to games like this for fans of the genre.

In the full game you choose between Humans or Robots, while you decide the fate of the earth across three story campaigns. A future where machines have risen to wage war against their creators and natural resources are scarce. Hmm, sounds familiar doesn't it.

Some Highlights:

  • Research Tree: Upgrade your units and make your buildings more efficient during matches, making each battle unique.
  • Espionage & Counterespionage: Scout enemy bases, intercept incoming missiles, and carry out other covert actions.
  • Pathing System: Automate unit behaviors so you can focus entirely on your strategy.
  • Diplomacy: Forge alliances with other armies to take down your opponents.
  • Online Multiplayer: Play against other players to claim the top spot as the ultimate war strategist!

“Outlive was among the first Brazilian games to gain global recognition and success, yet it’s not been easily accessible for several years as technology has advanced in the past quarter century,” said Rodrigo Dal’Asta, co-founder of Continuum Entertainment. “That said, we didn’t simply want to port the original Outlive to modern hardware, as there was so much potential for improvement. We plan to add ranking boards, even more customization options, and enhanced presentation. Outlive 25 takes everything that was great about retro RTS games and infuses it with a jolt of contemporary polish and accessibility for the ultimate fusion of old and new!”

A demo will be live tomorrow, October 10th, so it's ready for Steam Next Fest. Interestingly, the demo is its own standalone thing. The demo itself is a remake of the original demo, with a standalone campaign that serves as a prologue to the events of the three main campaigns. Pretty fun idea.

Wow, I remember Outlive. Not very fondly, mind you, competition was very tight back then.

Now, where's that Atrox remaster?
