Another release is here for the incredible open source project Blender. The 5.0 release brings huge changes like completely overhauled colour management.
Bringing with it a refreshed colour management pipeline that natively supports wide-gamut and HDR colour spaces. This also comes with improvements to their Vulkan support, and is supported on both Linux and Windows. With these improvements you get new display and views including support for:
- ACES 1.3 and 2.0 views as an alternative to AgX and Filmic and for compatibility with ACES pipelines (both standard and HDR).
- Rec.2100-PQ and Rec.2100-HLG displays. May be used for color grading for HDR video export.
- AgX HDR view.
Tons more new like much faster material compilation, a new fully realistic skeleton asset from the community, lots of big new rendering features like the Compositor in Blender 5.0 gaining a new asset shelf filled with built-in effects. There's also massive improvements to the Video Sequencer with "unprecedented integration" across different areas of the app, the UV Sync feature has been completely overhauled and enabled by default, there's lots of improvements for XR / VR and the list goes on forever.
On Linux there's also now support for the cursor-shape protocol under Wayland.

Speaking as someone who doesn't work with modelling and the like, this is far from my comfort zone. But, as an open source project it really does showcase how amazing the open source community can be - building something as incredible and feature-filled as this.
See their full release post for all the fun stuff.
It's also a lot of fun learning to use it. There are a ton of useful tutorials online.
And I think there was one with a younger and older man.
Are there more of this kind?
