The last major update for the Wipeout-like anti-grav racer BallisticNG is here, bringing with it new content and enhancements to existing features. The developers have said they're moving on from the game, as development on it will be sunset as they look to their next project. We'll still see some smaller updates and some paid DLC, but this is now the last major update for the racing game.

With the update there's two new tracks, and a whole lot of upgrades for online play including a new rollback netcode implementation. Multiplayer was expanded too with new game mode support, random ship variants for bots, and just online play that should work a whole lot better.

Input improvements too with more customisation of hotkeys and improvements to controller support, improvements to modding support and there's loads more - it's a long changelog.

It has Native Linux support and is Steam Deck Verified.

BallisticNG | Release Date: 31st May 2016

Kinda sad that development is coming to and end, but I can understand wanting to move onto new projects after so much time. I adore this game. It's THE game if you want a true spiritual successor to the Wipeout series. I can't recommend it enough. It's very frustrating that it's so overlooked.

I guess I picked a good time to buy. It is fun but tough to get into as somebody who grew up playing F-Zero rather than Wipeout. Piloting the racers in this feels comparatively like trying to steer an oceanliner at transonic speeds.

Try practicing at Cassandra. That's the best track for learning, IMO. The 2159 version of the Barracuda Model A ship on the toxic speed class is a good way to get used to the speed. I'd run some speed laps around Cassandra in it, and then, after you feel comfortable, increase the speed class gradually over time. That's what worked for me anyway.

I've been seeing the term "rollback netcode" a fair bit recently, so I had to look it up. Wikipedia to the rescue; it's basically input prediction for remote players, to help avoid lag from slow peers:
