With the first major update for ARC Raiders now available, we have an in-game event for players to work towards unlocking the next map.
Eventually, we'll be able to travel around the new Stella Montis map. First though, we all have to donate a bunch of goodies into the work including Metal Parts, Fabric, Chemicals, Rubber Parts and Plastic Parts. You know, all the junk we keep building up! When you donate, you build up a new Merits credit to eventually spend on rewards on the next stage of the event.
It initially started off pretty darn fast, with developers Embark having to raise the requirements quite a lot otherwise it would have been over far too soon. As they posted in Discord:
You have been progressing the unlock event much faster than we anticipated. We had no idea all of you would be so altruistic for the Stella Montis cause, and you are donating so much more than we could imagine. We want this event to be experienced by Raiders all over the world and therefore we are raising the bar to unlock Stella Montis expecting you to surprise us again.

This new map sounds quite different too, potentially more cramped than all of the current rather open maps as you explore a big facility. Can't wait to see what it really is when it's finally open.
Patch highlights:
- Reduced character movement latency on server to improve the "desync" problem where it looks like you get damaged even after behind cover.
- Fixed an issue that prevented players from completing quests involving multiple objectives or item collections within a single round.
- Fixed various achievements not working correctly. Players will need to redo some achievements with only one objective item (e.g. “Destroy the Queen”) while achievements with multiple objectives will only need parts of them completed again.
- Reduced delay between shooting at ARC and seeing impact effects on the target.
- Fixed various locations where players could fall through the terrain.
See much more in the release notes.
One issue that has come up is their nerf of the Security Locker drop rate. Considering it's a skill you have to unlock, some are not happy about it. In Discord they confirmed they're looking into the "possibility of adding a skill reset mechanic".
Thankfully, even with the major 1.2 update out, there's no problems with it running on Linux still. Perhaps we won't see what we do with THE FINALS, where it ends up breaking for a few days on every update. ARC Raiders is listed on our Linux / SteamOS anti-cheat compatibility page.
