After revealing the Deus Ex Remastered back in September, Aspyr faced a fair amount of backlash on the style of it and now it has been delayed. There's no date being shared for when it might release now.

They posted on Steam and across social media to say:

Thank you to the community for your feedback following the reveal of Deus Ex Remastered.

We've listened to what you had to say, and in order to better meet fan expectations and deliver the best possible experience for players, Deus Ex Remastered will no longer launch on Feb. 5, 2026.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you when the time comes.

All existing preorders will be fully refunded. Thank you again for your patience and support.

When we hear any more about a new date, we'll let you know. That's if it doesn't get cancelled.

Hopefully they'll be able to bring it up to a standard that Deus Ex fans will love, as it would be great to see it done properly and bring new players into the Deus Ex universe with it. Perhaps they need to take a look at what Nightdive Studios have been doing with their many highly successful updates of older games.

Oh, maybe thats where the mysterious refund came from, without any hint of where that came from...

The style was fine. Also, you can just play the original, if you prefer that. Some people just need to complain about everything.

The reception from the fans was definitely not good which explains a lot.

Ooooh, GamingOnLinux has emojis now?!

I don't mind remasters, just as long as it's clear that it is not going to cost $60 like everything today.

Yep, the comments box and SQL database was upgraded a long time ago to actually support it. But only just had the time to replace and code in an emoji selector that launched last night πŸ§πŸ‘

Consumerism. The 'remaster' looks genuinely worse than the original game from the year 2000. Also it costs (more) money, of course people will be critical.

Statements like these are one of the reasons why we'll never get game as good as Deus Ex again.

This is positive news, you'll now get a better product due to the feedback.

Seems in line with other Aspyr remasters like the Soul Reaver and Tomb Raider, that just have redesigned models and higher resolution textures. And as has already be told, you can change to the old one, so... Taking into account this is a remaster and not a remake, I don't see why the backlash.

I've just started a Deus Ex run last week! But then, I also started a Thief Gold run... and now I can't decide which to play when I'm in the mood for some retro gameplay!

I hope this also means that they can dedicate a bit extra time for the SWKOTOR Remake that, in theory, still have in development...

Edit: Oh, the remake is now with Saber Interactive!

Good decision. Why damage the brand further with this... thing?

Ehh... come on now; you know that's a wild exaggeration. Big studios shy away from im-sims because they've never been profitable enough for them. Deus Ex itself could come out only at the absolute tail end of the crazy experimental phase of 90s gaming, under John Romero himself as publisher.
