With the revival of Hytale ongoing towards an Early Access release in January, we now have it confirmed that it will be coming officially to Linux and macOS.
Previously it was a case of them being "attempted" but a new blog post today gives us a much more firm statement with the developers saying "We are actively working to bring Hytale to Linux and Mac as soon as possible". That's great to see - official support! Hopefully it goes well.
As for the Steam Deck they said they don't have the ability to test it right now, and it won't be coming to Steam until "we determine our ability to comply with Steam's policies". Thankfully for the Steam Deck and other SteamOS machines, running third-party stores and software is quite easy as a bunch of our guides will show you.
The blog post also goes into quite a lot of detail on the suggested system requirements for it. For the requirements it will be harder on your system for single-player, as it will run both the client and server it needs. This is what they're recommending at least for 1080p:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-10400 (or equivalent), AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (or equivalent)
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU:
- Integrated:
- Intel Iris Xe Graphics
- AMD Radeon 660M
- Dedicated:
- NVIDIA GTX 900 Series
- AMD Radeon 400 Series
- Intel Arc A-Series
- Deprecation notice: Support for Vulkan 1.3 will be required in the future.
- Storage: SSD with 20 GB of free space
- Network: 8 Mbit/s connection for multiplayer (UDP/QUIC compatible)
There's a lot more to it, I do suggest reading the full post.
Some previous full gameplay videos can be seen below if you missed them. Keeping in mind they are a heavy work in progress, the game isn't close to being finished after all the delays, cancellation and revival.

As for the Steam Deck they said they don't have the ability to test it right now, and it won't be coming to Steam until "we determine our ability to comply with Steam's policies".There was an article in Rock Paper Shotgun today that clarifies this obfuscation:
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/hytale-wont-be-on-steam-right-away-as-its-devs-want-to-avoid-overindexing-on-negative-reviews-from-players-who-arent-as-well-informed-yet
In this interview, the producer and team lead, Patrick 'Lyall' Derbic, was asked if the game would be on Steam, his reply was:
"No, not initially," he wrote. "We want to spend our time in early access working with the community and improving the game, rather than overindexing on negative reviews from players that aren't as well-informed yet about what we are doing. Steam is a great marketing tool, but one that we might never need. This doesn't mean we will never be on Steam - just that we do not see the necessity of it yet."This explanation makes much more sense to me.
