From the team that created the Long War mod for XCOM, the rather complex grand strategy game Terra Invicta now has a full release date.
Last time I tried to play it, I was completely overwhelmed by not just all the options but how complicated the game interface felt and I just couldn't get into it. As much as I wanted too, it was a bit too involved in every little thing. Even so, it seemed to run really well with Valve's Proton on Linux.
More about it: "After aliens are detected at the fringes of the Solar System, humanity fractures into seven ideological factions, each with a unique vision of the future, each vying for power among the world’s nations. Take control of Earth’s nations, expand across the Solar System to exploit its resources, and build space-faring ships to fight in realistic tactical combat."
They've now set a release date for 1.0 on January 5th. This brings with it a new 2026 scenario for modern day Earth, along with support for new languages including Czech, Italian, Korean, Russian, and Ukrainian. That's on top of masses of improvements they've been adding in testing builds recently like an updated tutorial and an overhaul of the UI. Perhaps I'll actually be able to understand it now.

I did really like the whole seven factions idea, and how they all have different goals and win conditions (some of them completely antithetical to each other – you can play as the faction that only wins by killing all the aliens, or the one that wins by helping the aliens take over Earth, to various flavors of "keep Earth safe", to the wildcard "let's figure out how to evacuate Earth's population somewhere else!" faction).
