From the HarbourMasters team is another Nintendo PC port, this time it's Super Mario 64. HarbourMasters previously released ports for Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Zelda: Majora's Mask and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

With the Super Mario 64 PC port being announced January 18th, there's not currently a Native Linux build but the release page notes "Linux coming Very Soon". Not supported by Nintendo in any way like all previous PC ports, the source code is available under the MIT license thanks to the libultraship project.

I was under the impression we already had a PC port of Super Mario 64.

Anyway, good news.

We do but a lot of those have been rather all-over-the-place and required you to compile them yourself, at least that's been my experience. Many were abandoned pretty much right after they were playable.

Not just one, a bunch of them. But all of them required being manually compiled and their featuresets (some supported mods, some didn't, some only supported some mods, among other things) and naming convention made them somewhat confusing. Also, none of them were portable either. A port from HarbourMasters promises better support overall and better configurability.

Now we wait for the mods to get ported over... eventually.

The best two versions of super mario 64 ported to PC, that I know about are. Neither require compiling unless you want too.

Odyssey Mario's Moveset by PeachyPeach
https://github.com/PeachyPeachSM64/sm64ex-omm

This is the best if you want single player only. Has tons of ingame options to tweak how you want it to play, including just vanilla 64.

Has ports of a few big mods, including...
Super Mario 64 Moonshine
Super Mario 74 + Extreme Edition
Super Mario Star Road
Super Mario 64: The Green Stars
Render96

SM64 CO-OP DX
https://github.com/coop-deluxe/sm64coopdx

Still actively being updated and has a huge amount of mods on their website.

PeachyPeach even ported alot of there custom stuff over.

Looking at that 'Odyssey Mario's Moveset' it does seem to require manual building for native linux, the precompiled version is windows/wine only

Would be cool to have a flatpak (or appimage) with all that stuff built in and accessible via in game menu.

Yeah, I just ran it with Proton(Thru Faugus Launcher) because I had it downloaded anyway. Hopefully alot of the additions in the two I posted get ported over to this new release.

Looks like you get it from this repo, going by the info on the page you linked.

Yeah, will be nice if they can port those big mods over to this new version. Wonder if the recomp launcher could add all the HarbourMasters releases and become a more general perpose tool.

But does your Mario 64 port run on Sega Saturn, though?
