NVIDIA announce a native Linux app for GeForce NOW

NVIDIA already added Steam Deck support for GeForce NOW and they're now expanding it with a dedicated Native Linux app for desktops. Truly beginning to show how far things have come for Linux gaming as everyone is now truly taking notice.

You may have seen reports elsewhere a few days ago as it seems some decided to break the embargo and leak this - but yes it's real and confirmed by NVIDIA now officially.

Before celebrating too hard though - the Native Linux app is not here yet, as NVIDIA said it will arrive in Beta "early this year". According to NVIDIA this was "one of the top requests from the PC gaming community" and it will arrive with support for "Ubuntu 24.04 and later distributions".

Hopefully it won't be an Ubuntu-specific download. It would be most ideal if they got the official app up on something like Flathub which would simplify the rollout and give NVIDIA access to a wide array of Linux distributions but we'll have to wait and see on that.

Considering the amount of games that block Linux with anti-cheat, this is just one possible answer so you can still play them on Linux until our user share grows enough that those companies (Epic, EA, Activision etc) can no longer just block Linux / SteamOS from their games. And with the rising prices of RAM, GPUs and storage - Cloud Gaming can be a bit of a crutch at times for some of the newer games. Especially nice for more lower-powered handhelds too.

Overall, it's just great to see more companies bring their apps to Linux! I hope to see other companies begin to follow along across 2026 and beyond.

On top of the GeForce NOW Native Linux app support, they've also revealed support for Amazon Fire TV sticks. This will also launch sometime "early this year". Even more hardware is now going to be supported including flight controls support on GeForce NOW so you can bring sticks and throttles along for the ride for your flight sims.

More titles were revealed to be arriving too including 007 First Light, Resident Evil Requiem, Crimson Desert and Active Matter are coming to GeForce NOW when they launch on PC.

To make things easier GeForce NOW is also adding Gaijin.net account linking support for automatic sign-in too. So games like War Thunder will be easier to just click play and go.
