Title: 2026 Gaming Goals...?
simplyseven 2 days ago
Hi everyone!

I'm not the most bleeding of edge gamers. I spent a lot of time in World of Warcraft so I have a decent backlog of games. New year, new forum, new us... so I figured perhaps it would be good to list some gaming goals!

  • Play through Hollow Knight

  • Play through Hades II

  • Finish a play-through in Divinity: Original Sin 2. There is game beyond Act I... I'm sure of it. 😆

  • Stardew Valley - Jojo Run? Maybe? Pierre sucks so probably?

Anyone else?

I want to finish Fallout 4, but I've gotten distracted by Balatro, Brotato, Vampire Survivors, American Truck Simulator (all practically endless games) and a few smaller games that I've actually managed to finish.

I should add Fallout 4. I tried to threw a mini-nuke at a guy one time and just...after I reloaded into just before the mini-nuke accident, I stopped playing and just never went back...

Semi-related... mini-nukes have a very large explosive radius. WAY larger than you can like... throw. I've found.😁

Fallout 4 is so broken in many ways. Have you ever found a shotgun with the explosive legendary effect? That thing is crazier than the mini-nukes. The ammo is very cheap and you get one explosion for each bullet with possibly quite a lot of spread.

Honestly, I just want to finish more single-player story games. I play so many repeatable roguelikes that suck away hours endlessly, but I want a few good stories to sink into again. Feeling a hole left by Dispatch which was ace.

Do you mean with similar mechanics/stories? Or like...just story-rich gaming with few "Rogue like/light" mechanics?

I don't disagree. I think it would be awesome to see a deeper exploration into new stories and genres.

Just more story-rich games of any sort really. Picked up God of War Ragnorok in the Steam sale, looking forward to diving into that soon.

DOS2 is one of my all time fav rpgs. SO GOOD. It's dramatically different now than it was when it first launched (which is I guess a Larian staple) and Lohse's character arc is I think the number 1 character arc in any rpg ever. That song she plays. I still remember that scene.

It's 100% worth investing the time into finishing that game. Go for it!

Things on my personal 2026 gaming to-do list:

Keep working through the backlog. I picked up Hellblade 2 in the last sale, so that's near to top of the list when I've got solo desktop gaming time. I've got plenty of Deck games and more sociable desktop games, too, though.

We've already decided that we're going to play [Adventures of a Cat in Space](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3265960/Adventures_of_a_Cat_in_Space/) together as a family group, so I'm looking forward to that being released.

When the Steam Frame was announced the family perked up and said that they'd be interested in that. So I'll be looking to see if VR has enough compelling content for us and then maybe doing a bunch of VR stuff after "early 2026." And if we decide to do VR gaming in the living room rather than where my desktop is, I'll likely be picking up a Steam Machine as well, and then I might be doing telly gaming as well.

My favourite way of gaming, though, is curled up with a cat, on the sofa or in bed, with the Deck, so I'm likely to continue mainly doing that through 2026.

Edit: oh, also, our family Minecraft town now has a school, but it also needs a library and a museum. If those aren't done by the end of the year I'll be quite disappointed.

If Valve's marketing is correct.
The Frame will be able to VR even non-vr games.

Oops I realized I didn't even say the answer for this thread lol. So:

2026 goals are:

  • finish outer worlds 2 - I'm near the end and it's SUCH A SLOG OMG WHY OBSIDIAN. I hit level cap sooooooo soooo soooooooooooo long ago which is just horrible game design, and now my character gets no xp, no skills, no abilities, no new things to unlock / hack, no nothing ... ever. It's so dumb. I haven't changed a single thing about my char including weapons or armor or helmets or anything in FOREVER. Horrible horrible horrible late game design. The beginning and middle started out so strong. Why Obsidian? Sadness. Avowed didn't suffer from this, quite the opposite, it was amazing all the way through.

  • play some more quartet on deck! Having a blast with this one.

  • wait patiently for turn based mode for pillars 1.

I don't know Quartet, but Outer Worlds 2 and Turn Based Pillars sounds great!

Oh no. I hate it when games overstay their welcome. I'd rather have a game that leaves the feeling that it should have been longer than something that goes on and on forever. If a story-based game is longer than the mechanics can cope, I tend to wish that I was reading a book instead.
