PayPalBazzite has a big new update available for your PC gaming handhelds and desktops with some major packaging upgrades to play with.
Unfortunately though, the initial roll-out came with a major problem. The 43.20260302 version had a bug that could cause "100% disk usage on gamemode specific images", but they've already rolled out 43.20260303 that fixes the problem.
The main highlights of what's new:
- As of this update we are now shipping KDE 6.6, minus the new login manager. That will come with the next major Fedora release.
- Mesa 26.0.1 is now present in all images.
- KDE users will find this to be the first stable release that returns Konsole. Ptyxis will remain on our KDE images for a short time to make it easier for users to transition any terminal configs they’ve made. This change is being done because Konsole will very soon have container support on-par with Ptyxis. If you enjoy Ptyxis and want to continue to use it, please install the Ptyxis flatpak from Bazaar after it’s removed.
- Kontainer is now installed on new installs of our KDE images, replacing DistroShelf.
- Latest version of Bazaar with a ton of great improvements.
- All images are now 200MB smaller.
In the announcement they said the next release they'll be focusing on the new "OGC" kernel (Open Gaming Collective) for desktops, with handhelds to receive it at a later date along with Input Plumber. In addition to improvements coming for steering wheels and Elgato capture cards in the next release.

Huh. Can't believe they'd actually restore Konsole and uses Kontainer. I've been using Kontainer myself and has been quite happy with it. Hopefully Discover could return - it's quite useful for keeping applets, themes, and other KNewStuff things updated.
Still, good to see that Bazzite getting good new updates even if there was a bit of an issue. It no longer fits my usecase and I don't think I could trust it, but it is good to see it improving.

I personally dislike Discover as it feels slow and bloated due to the many different backends it supports and despite being called Discover, the discoverability of apps feels lacking in comparison to Bazaar. I even started using Bazaar on my Steam Deck.

I personally dislike Discover as it feels slow and bloated due to the many different backends it supports and despite being called Discover, the discoverability of apps feels lacking in comparison to Bazaar. I even started using Bazaar on my Steam Deck.
re, konsole: I switched to konsole from ptyxis months ago, not being able to split tabs was more critical than having a button to enter a container instead of typing distrobox enter. Does ptyxis have any other enhancements?

I didn't care for Bazaar at first, but it's fine now. I would still prefer Discover to maintain..."Konsistency", but Bazaar is fine.
I am glad to see Konsole replace Ptyxis though. Nothing "wrong" with Ptyxis, but again, I use Plasma+KDE and prefer to use Qt apps.

I've moved my desktop PC to the living room, and missing the HTPC feeling. I might give Bazzite a spin to have consistency with the Deck.

I've been using konsole with distrobox just fine even before I got on ublue, and that's before we even have Bazzite and only had ublue-kinoite. I can enter my container pretty quickly - just use an alias or zsh-autosuggestions if you want to do it quickly.

I don't care about Discover's problems with Flatpak and others. I just want to be able to keep my applets, themes, and kwin scripts updated. If it bothers people so much, just include Bazaar, pin it in favorite, hide Discover in Utility category.
What I hated was Discover being removed when Bazaar still sucked. I did give it a try back then - it locks the entire app if you clicked Update, it was still pretty slow, I know it crashed on other people, and I find the way it loads on each keypress while searching to be rather uncomfortable as I am a bit sensitive to flashing screens. It wasn't ready, it was shoved in my face, and what I needed was removed while restoring it isn't as straightforward as with Konsole. The last time an operating system didn't something similar, I left and learned an entirely new operating system.
Honestly, I don't even want to talk about Bazaar anymore - it just keeps making me angry remembering how it was implemented in the ublue ecosystem. I don't even care how good it is now, the initial introduction left such a bad taste in my mouth.
