After being revived with a remaster, the cult-classic RPG 'OFF' just got upgraded with Native Linux and macOS support. Originally released in 2008 from Mortis Ghost, OFF is their most famous work along with the graphic novels "Dr Cataclysm" (2020) and "The Sun of the Mages" (2022).

OFF is one of the most influential RPGs of the last 20 years, with millions of downloads, a huge cult following and various fan translations. It's even been cited multiple times in Toby Fox's UNDERTALE Art Book as an inspiration for his designs.

This definitive version features an all-new battle system, balancing improvements, as well as new areas and hidden bosses from the game's creator, Mortis Ghost. The surreal indie RPG, originally released in French, has now also received an OFFicial English translation.

From the v1.2 patch notes:

  • Added Japanese language.
  • Added German language.
  • Added support for Mac and Linux.
  • Added OFF 3.0 "language"
    • You can now play OFF in "OFF 3.0" mode that preserves most of the original graphics and English 3.0 translation. Note that a small number of changes were made to the script in order to not raise the game’s rating.
  • Bunch of small bug fixes like "random red line" and "pillar art looks weird".

Writing about the Linux version on Bluesky the developer said:

"And surprise to Steam owners, the game now has a Mac and Linux version! Linux was well-supported with Proton, but this native update allows OFF to run on more lower end computers. We even got it running 60fps on a 3770k with integrated graphics on 24.04 LTS."
