Playground Games / Xbox Game Studios released the PC specifications for Forza Horizon 6, confirming it will be playable on Steam Deck / SteamOS Linux.

In the official full announcement posted on Steam they said:

Our team has made significant improvements to the custom PC engine that delivered excellent performance in Forza Horizon 5, pushing graphical fidelity and quality further than ever before. Forza Horizon 6 has been built to take advantage of the latest generation of graphics hardware, delivering a world-class PC gaming experience.

We're ecstatic for PC players to jump in and Discover Japan. Whether you prefer to play on high-end custom rigs and gaming laptops, or even PC handheld devices such as the Steam Deck and Xbox ROG Ally, Forza Horizon 6 will play great across the wide range of hardware configurations.

As we reach the final stages of the development before launch, we've put together the following spec sheet so you have an estimate of how Forza Horizon 6 should perform on your PC this May:

This is good to see such direct confirmation. No shenanigans with anti-cheat or logins causing problems, which means it should work just fine on other Linux systems too (and they do directly mention "SteamOS devices"). They said it will have cross-save for all platforms too.

In the announcement they also confirmed the game will be shipping with enhanced ray tracing features (Ray-Traced Reflections and Ray-Traced Global Illumination), uncapped framerates, ultrawide support and support for various steering wheels too. There will also be support for NVIDIA DLSS 4, AMD FSR 3 AND 4, Intel XeSS 2.1.

With all the PC setting customization options it will have a live preview, along with no need to restart the game and there's a benchmarking mode too.

Will you be picking it up?

Cool, though if I'm not mistaken they're only referring to the device and not the OS... So they might want you to install Windows on your Deck 😅

Edit : article updated 👍

Not quoted here, but mentioned elsewhere in the announcement: "For players who own a PC gaming handheld device, such as the Steam Deck or Xbox ROG Ally, you can explore Japan on the go with all your progress intact thanks to cross-save, which is available on every platform Forza Horizon 6 can be played on. That includes Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and SteamOS devices, PC gaming handhelds, and the PlayStation 5 version coming later this year."

Man I'm such a sucker for these games. Mexico was a blast, and now Japan should be awesome! I think I will wait a bit though, patches / updates, and a discount sound good to me.
