Hardware vendor Framework has now become a KDE Patron, offering financial support to further push open source like the Plasma desktop. Framework join the likes of Google, Canonical, Blue Systems, Qt Group and others in supporting KDE directly.

From the press release:
"KDE is extremely popular in the Framework community, and we're excited to help support KDE's efforts to make the best possible Linux desktop." says Nirav Patel, Founder of Framework.
"I am excited to see Framework become a KDE Patron," says Aleix Pol, President of KDE e.V.. "It's a good continuation to our collaboration with different hardware manufacturers and distributors to ensure we can deliver systems to our users with an experience up to our expectations. Furthermore, Framework’s commitment to repairability strongly aligns with our values and is vital for building a more sustainable industry."
Nice to see open source continue to get recognised, and Framework have been doing some great stuff with their modular upgradable laptops.
That said. Fuck Framework and their “big tent”. You don’t get to play middle of the road both sides anymore, that ship has sailed…. right into an iceberg.

Quoting: mr-victoryThere was a drama that Framework supported non-koscher projects so now everyone should hate on Framework ;)Quoting: DurandalThat said. Fuck Framework and their “big tent”.Huh? What did I miss?
ad rem - great move. KDE is getting better and better despite GNOME being the default on majority of distros. What makes me laugh is that Fedora recently promoted KDE variant to the main page and put lovely: "The next generation personal desktop" monicker below it 🥰
Quoting: mr-victoryTL;DR they promoted and supported an unapologetic white supremacist... when they were called out on it they said they use a "big tent" and don't pick sides.Quoting: DurandalThat said. Fuck Framework and their “big tent”.Huh? What did I miss?

Quoting: Durandalsupported an unapologetic white supremacist..I would very much like to see examples of this. That's a horrible thing. From anything I've seen, nothing has directly been the offenders words.
I looked at Hyprlands website and such. It seems like a really interesting project from a user perspective at least. Thus, the more "non-gross" people working on the technology means it can be taken over by "decent" people or organizations.
I'm all for boycotts but, we need to be careful about The Townsfolk Mentality and witch burning. People very much have emotional, knee-jerk reactions and they do so to things that have been twisted and blown out of proportion. One thin-skinned person gets offended then others jump on the bandwagon.
I've seen reports of artists going to trial for accusations, then are found to be innocent. Afterwards, the townsfolk are still up in arms. The artist' life has been ruined with no solid evidence, tried in court and found not-guilty meanwhile the public still treats the person as guilty.
This is something to watch I suppose. Bare in mind that the first step from an organization could be supporting a project, the next could be forking it or writing something new with learned knowledge. Just look at System76 and GNOME ➡️ Cosmic.
Anyway, it's great to see KDE get more support. It's great to see for-profit corporations spending money on libre software.
