Valve released a fresh update to the Steam Client Beta, bringing a few useful bug fixes and more work on the new Linux SteamRT3 Beta.

For those that missed it the Linux SteamRT3 Beta is a new container system that the Steam Client can run inside on Linux systems, much the same as how games run inside the Steam Linux Runtime. And, it comes with 64bit support finally too. It's a bit buggy right now, but Valve have already begun improving it.

The full list of changes for March 25th:

Big Picture

  • Fixed an issue with the "use the gamepadui overlay when a controller is connected" mode where desktopUI chat windows could open and block the Big Picture overlay.

Game Recording

  • Fixed the instant clip shortcut not working for non-Steam games when using a gamepad.

Linux SteamRT3 Beta

  • Fixed games failing to start when when some custom launch options are specified.
  • Fixed client startup loop that could occur in rare circumstance when Steam config directory is in an unexpected state.

Remote Play

  • Fixed launching with surround sound audio when streaming a game from the library.
  • Added support for streaming 7.1 surround sound.

Though apparently they broken the "normal" beta client. It did on my system and I've see a couple of reports on Reddit and GitHub.

This could pair wonderfully with the Epoch 2 release of Cosmic later this summer / year. If this 64b containerized steam comes out of beta around then, I will flash to an entirely new cutting edge system wooo!
