PayPalFramework's "[Next Gen] Event" is coming on April 21 where we expect new hardware announcements, and it looks like something big for Linux too.
In their full blog post they go over how the industry is changing, like even Apple becoming more repairable with their latest hardware release. And then they go on to talk about the struggles with RAM, storage and everything else being sucked up by AI companies causing rising prices along with the shift from ownership to subscription and how the industry is "asking you to own nothing and be happy".
Framework are doubling-down on ownership and giving you what you want, as they said in the post:
You might be reading all of this and thinking, is this a farewell letter to personal computing? Is this the end of Framework? No, this is a manifesto. No matter how inevitable the AI-takes-all scenario may sound, as long as there is a person in the world who still wants to own their means of computation, we will be here to build the hardware that enables it. That means computers that you can own at the deepest level and do what you want with, whether that is choosing your OS, modifying your hardware, or even just keeping your data and computation local rather than leased from the cloud. We won’t get there all at once, but we will always be fighting for a future where you can own everything and be free.
What makes it quite a lot more exciting is that they're teasing something big for Linux. They've released two YouTube shorts teasing Linux. One of which shown below is named "Follow the white penguin.". It shows off the clear Linux Tux logo along with flashes of a few different Linux distribution logos including Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, CachyOS and Bazzite:

s76 has literally zero options. Nothing. Kind of astonishing. They only have two models of laptops that're under 15 in, and they're intel only. I almost thought about reaching out to their sales support to see if their website just wasn't up to date or whatever, but nah ... I'll just move on. Still, pretty amazing.
I go to framework's site: Right there at the top. 13 in laptop with an amd apu, matte screen, customizable ports, and repairability built in.
It's a no brainer.

I also started to fall in love with 12 inch laptops instead of my 15 inch. And since system76 doesn't have sizes smaller then 14 inch they stopped being an option. Then framework came along and I really like the concept and waited to see if they would survive, get the price down or if they would make a 12 inch. Then they made a 12 inch that came in pink, my price range and was a 2in1 that had pen support its my perfect laptop so I ordered one immediately.
Now I don't like some of the things in their big tent but I've had to work with and my family has had to employ people that would hate to find out I'm trans which makes me conflicted on the whole thing.

I have the feeling they are taking away a lot of their sales.My feeling is that their lighter specced laptops took some heavy hit, not just by Framework, but also by AMD Windows laptops which often tend to be cheaper, better built, and work just as good. However, the higher specced laptops are probably not much affected as there isn't much competition there other than Framework which doesn't fit all tastes.
