OptiScaler is probably one of the most interesting open source tools around, allowing you to upgrade and mix various tech together in lots of games.
So what exactly does it do? It intercepts calls from one tech and redirects them to whatever you choose. Doing things hardware vendors won't (or legally can't) and allows you to get better upscaling and frame generation tech in various games. It enables you to have more choice and control, like adding AMD FSR or DLSS into more games.

You can use it on Steam Deck with a Decky Loader plugin previously covered on GamingOnLinux and OptiScaler itself directly supports Linux with an installer script. In the release notes for the latest version the developer notes you need "the latest Proton which includes latest VKD3D commits which support FSR 4.1/FFX SDK 2.2 in order to work" and that "FSR4-FG requires Mesa 25.2+ and Wine prefix set to Win 11".
The changelog for version 0.9 is absolutely massive, as it's from many months of work by the developers.
Some highlights include:
- FG settings received a major rewrite/revamp.
(+ OptiScaler now comes bundled with latest Fakenvapi (1.4) and Nukems dlssg-to-fsr3 (0.130)) - Updated to XeSS 3.0 SDK.
- Updated to FFX 2.2 SDK.
- Added FSR4 Vulkan w/Dx12 support.
(Enabling AMD FSR4 on Vulkan games via DX12 interop) - FSR2 DX11 input support.
- FSR2 Vulkan input support.
- Added XeSS DX11 inputs.
- Added Process Filter option and DLL blacklisting.
- Various game improvements for a better out of the box experience.
Have any GamingOnLinux readers been regularly using OptiScaler? Let us know in the comments what you're doing with it and what you think of it!

Here is script: https://pastebin.com/TW17k7Fr
I still use my RDNA2 GPU and thanks to this, I can use FSR4 (only 4.0, but good enough) everywhere. Can save money for GPU. Will buy a good OLED Monitor instead. 👍
