The Long Dark from Hinterland Studio has finally finished the WINTERMUTE story with episode 5 bringing us the end.

Nowadays the game is completely split in two. There's the WINTERMUTE episodic story, and then there's the survival mode. The story has been many years in the making over all but good to see it finished. In episode five you play as Mackenzie and Astrid as they battle the elements and other threats to finally uncover the mystery of the Aurora.

Seems like it's not entirely it for the game as a whole though, as Hinterland CEO hinted there's more to come for the series. We also have BLACKFROST: The Long Dark 2 to arrive one day, although they had some layoffs earlier this year as the sequel was taking longer than expected.

For people who have played up until Episode 5, keep in mind this episode is more linear to help bring it to a conclusion.

The game also has a nice big 90% discount on Steam until April 9th, so a great time to pick it up. Making it just £2.79 for the entire thing - excellent deal overall.

When I read the news, I checked when I last played this game. It was August 2017, some time after I finished episode 2. I probably forgot how to play this game entirely. 😆
